Welcome to “Only Dreaming”, the personal website of Ian Renton.

I write fiction, largely short stories that can be read here if you so desire. They're generally works of fantasy, though I occasionally dabble in other things. I am also writing a novel-length story, Forgotten Children, which is being serialised online. Dreaming Awake is a major setting for some of my stories, and is also itself probably a novel-to-be.

I run and am involved with roleplaying games, and theorise others in the hope that someone else may run them – various resources from systems to background stories are here too.

I write software in my spare time (to take a break from work where I, uh, write software), and make it all freely available here. My most popular creations so far appear to be my music player / library organiser MusicMan and Twitter client SuccessWhale.

I like to cook, and some of the recipes I’m most proud of can be found here. I also have a blog, wherein I mostly rant about politics, mock movies and inexplicably keep ending up on the subject of In the Night Garden. You can find my photography on Flickr.
